Heather Zayde, LCSW

Heather Zayde, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through The Linehan Institute and Behavioral Tech Research, LLC. She is an integral member of the consultation team and the primary DBT adult and multi-family DBT skills trainer at BHBA. Her clinical and teaching acumen makes her the perfect mentor to social work and psychology clinical externs and interns who observe and participate in her groups.

Heather provides individual DBT to adults, teens, pre-teens and behavioral psychotherapy to children experiencing complex symptoms and problems. Her clinical strengths lie in the treatment of depression, anxiety, suicidal behaviors, trauma related symptoms, oppositional behaviors, anger management and other problems of severe emotional dysregulation.

Heather has worked in a DBT framework for the last ten years and trained with Dr. Andre Ivanoff, Director of the DBT program at the Columbia University School of Social Work at Columbia University. While there, Heather specialized in individual and group counseling in mental health settings and trained at the Hunter College Counseling Center and the NYC Department of Education.  Since graduating, she has treated teenage males at Rikers Island, conducted research on the psychiatric effects of concussions on adolescent athletes, and has worked extensively with children and adults with special needs in a community center setting.

Heather is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Medical Reserve Corps of New York.  She is certified through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services in cultural competency and problem gambling.  She is also certified through the New York State Department of Youth and Community Development, in family systems therapy.  Of note, Heather will complete advanced training in Parent Management Training (PMT) in the spring of 2016.

In her spare time, Heather enjoys going to art museums, learning about Zen Buddhism and playing guitar and drums, and singing in a punk band.  Heather is a proud activist and advocates publicly against racism, sexism, homophobia, and all other forms of oppression.
