WEldon LummuS, LCSW

Weldon Lummus, LCSW, graduated from Columbia University’s School of Social Work where she participated in the intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training program and lab under Andre Ivanoff, Ph.D. Weldon is drawn to DBT because of its proven results and emphasis on mindfulness and skill building as key ingredients to help individuals build lives worth living. At BHBA, Weldon practices as an individual DBT therapist, co-leads skills groups, and participates as a member of both the DBT and behavioral exposure consultation teams.

In addition to DBT, Weldon specializes in – and receives training and supervision for – several other evidence-based treatments. This includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ExRP) to treat OCD and anxiety-related disorders, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy Prolonged Exposure Protocol (DBT-PE), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat PTSD and trauma. Weldon participated in intensive DBT-PE training under Dr. Melanie Harned, the developer of DBT-PE protocol. For EMDR, she was trained through the Child Trauma Institute with EMDR expert Ricky Greenwald, Psy.D. Weldon is also trained in Radically-Open DBT, a treatment developed by Dr. Tom Lynch to help individuals with disorders of over-control. She co-leads a RO-DBT skills group weekly.

In addition to her clinical work, Weldon assisted her BHBA colleagues in providing psychoeducation and workshops on trauma and treatment to NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation in August 2020. Her interests lie in the treatment of trauma and working with complex problems, and she looks forward to continuing to train in and implement evidence-based treatments for trauma at BHBA.

Weldon graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. After starting her career in the education field, Weldon entered into clinical social work because of her deep commitment to helping adolescents and adults find paths to overcome challenges that extend beyond the classroom. Weldon has previous experience as a social work intern at a public high school in the Bronx, where she provided individual supportive counseling, crisis counseling, and strength-based interventions to students.

In her spare time, Weldon enjoys reading, cooking, running, hiking, and spending quality time with family and friends.
